Herring Watershed GIS Database Development, Baltimore, MD

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. is providing civil and environmental engineering as well as GIS database development for the creation of a master plan for various streams within the Herring Run Watershed which will allow the City of Baltimore to become proactive in handling and solving the problems which are inherent to any stream or watercourse. The planning effort includes providing stream habitat evaluation, channel classification, biological monitoring, and buffer assessment; creating databases which depict streams classifications and their need for improvements; and then using a GIS system to create a capital improvements program and prioritize projects to meet the upcoming needs of various watercourses and to return urbanized streams to a natural, stable, and permanent state.

Specific services include:

  • Conducting overall mapping and evaluation for the watercourse
  • Identifying existing and future problems areas for flooding and inadequate structures
  • Developing a database system, compatible with an established GIS system, for the storage and retrieval of selected information regarding streams and open channel storage facilities
  • Providing cost estimates
