Aircraft Maintenance Hanger Complex (Whiteside/ Greenside) Marine Corp Air Facility, Dahlgren, VA

AMT performed Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services to resolve utility record conflicts, define the specific locations of sensitive fiber optic communication transmission lines, and identify specific horizontal and vertical locations of existing utilities at the proposed design connection points.

As part of the SUE services, Quality Level B Utility Designation was performed to mark and identify underground utilities within the limits of the topographic survey. Meetings with Base Public Works Personnel and Public Utility Companies were coordinated in an effort to obtain all utility record information/plans and obtain verbal history of utility installations, maintenance, and damages. Then, conductive utilities were marked utilizing Geophysical prospecting techniques in conjunction with radio, audio and electromagnetic equipment. A utility sweep was performed to identify any unknown conductive utilities. Non conductive utilities were marked utilizing above ground features, utility plats and/or as built and recollections.

Utilities were marked utilizing standard marking paint and/or flags in accordance with APWA standard code to ensure accuracy in the collection of the information. Quality Level A Underground Utility Locating (Test Holes) was performed at proposed utility connection points to identify the precise horizontal and vertical location of the existing utility. This effort includes test hole excavation utilizing Hydro Air Vacuum excavation method. The Hydro Air Vacuum method allowed exposure of the utility in typical 12"x12" test hole with minimal risk of utility damage. Once the test hole was performed, the utility was surveyed and a Test Hole Report was generated providing utility information and surveyed elevations and coordinates.
