Silver Hill Utility Locating/Test Holes, Suitland, Maryland

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. directed subsurface utility engineering and surveying services along Silver Hill Road. Test hole services were provided to determine the actual horizontal and vertical location of the existing utilities and/or structures by air/vacuum excavation.

Specific services included but were not limited to:

  • Field determination of the actual location of proposed improvements
  • Excavation of a test hole using air/vacuum excavation
  • Provision of measurements needed for work to occur safely and with no damage to the utility
  • Determination of depth below grade; utility material, shape and condition; diameter of facilities; and general soil conditions
  • Installation of a permanent marketer over the centerline of pipes
  • Backfill of test hole with excavated material
  • Restoration/repair of pavement cuts
  • Survey of test hole locations with a total station
  • Provision of test hole reports
