On-Call Environmental Services - LID Design, Prince George's County, MD
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. provided studies, assessments, and preliminary and final designs of various projects on an on-call basis relating to stormwater management evaluation, design and retrofit, water quality improvements, stream restoration/stabilization, and environmental restoration.
Among the stormwater management options evaluated and designed were Low Impact Development technologies including bioretention, disconnected downspouts, rain gardens and rain barrels, permeable pavers, tree box planters, wet swales, infiltration trenches, and French drain systems involving low impact development to filter, store, evaporate, and detain run-off close to its source.
The evaluation and design of these facilities followed the procedures and standards set forth in Low-Impact Development Hydrologic Analysis, 1999; Low-Impact Development Design Strategies, An Integrated Design Approach, 1999; and Low-Impact Development Design Manual, 1997.
Among AMT's LID projects were:
Bladensburg Town Hall and Fire Station LID, Prince George's County, Maryland : Provided design of two bioretention facilities at the Bladensburg Fire Station and Town Hall. Flow splitters using curb cuts and trench drains were designed to divert first flush of water, from parking lots and buildings, to bio-retention facilities which consisted of underground sand and planting soil bed layers with surface plantings conducive to temporary flooded events. Project designed was highly visible and fast tracked (1 month) in order to meet planting season schedule.
Upshur Street Development LID Feasibility Report, Prince George 's County, Maryland : Provided a feasibility report which included LID approaches for Water Quality Treatment, streetscaping, and stream biostabilization techniques. Coordination with Maryland State Highway Administration and CSX railroad due to future improvements.
Prince Georges Animal Control Facility LID Demonstration Site, Prince George's County, Maryland: Site to be used as a LID demonstration site using various LID approaches such as bioretention, amended soils, butterfly gardens, wildflower/meadows, extended flow path/channel credits and vegetated buffers.
