Meadowcreek Parkway, Charlottesville, Virginia
In conjunction with both the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. assisted the Virginia DOT in the analysis of existing watershed conditions in McIntire Park related to the planning of the McIntire Road Extension from US 250 to Rio Road. Services were primarily focused on evaluating drainage conditions including peak discharges, environmental compliance issues, storm water management, and floodplain modeling. Services included preliminary evaluation and planning, cost estimating and final design of a regional / multi-purpose stormwater management facility with recreational amenities including walkways and running trails which will encourage multi-modal use of the new facilities. Point discharges at pipe outlets were also evaluated for the installation of rain gardens to further enhance the environmental mitigation plans by providing energy dissipation and sediment forebays for runoff prior to discharging to Meadow Creek and Schenk's Branch.
