Cub Run Watershed Improvements, Fairfax County, VA
A. Morton Thomas & Associates (AMT) provided engineering services and a conceptual design report for this proposed stormwater quantity and quality improvements project.
The project consisted of implementing and refining the findings from the Cub Run Watershed Study recently completed by the County in order to develop a conceptual plan. Identified up to three (3) pond retrofits and stream restoration projects within the connecting stream corridors as a part of this project and a possible inadequate drainage structure. The County asked to progress from the study and develop schematic designs, while also investigating the options described in the study to determine more specifically what improvements are planned.
Services provided include:
- Base mapping: Prepare base mapping for the project site and the upstream watershed areas tributary to the project site using County GIS.
- Field vision/site investigation: Validate existing GIS mapping as to field conditions, and then investigate, measure, and photograph existing storm water management facilities and problem areas.
- Existing documentation: Collected and reviewed available documentation provided by the County to include master planning, H&H or SWMM modeling, as-builts or construction plans for the pond sites, GIS data, and mapping showing topography, utilities, soils, land use, RPA and zoning information.
- H/H Modeling: Prepared a drainage area map for use in hydrological studies. Drainage areas will be delineated along with RCN'S and TC's for each drainage area to each existing storm water treatment facility, to include the downstream terminus of the study which is the C39 basin. A hydrological model for calculating pre- and post- development runoff hydrographs will then be developed using SCS methods. We will then incorporate some preliminary concepts for storm water control structures and pond retrofits to determine their affects.
- Public Meeting: Prepared site plan of the recommended plan. Attend the meeting to assist the County in making a presentation to the interested residents.
