Christman Stormwater Management Pond Retrofit, Gaithersburg, Maryland
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. provided engineering consulting services for retrofitting of Christman Pond. This project was implemented by the City of Gaithersburg Department of Public Works. The improvements became necessary due to the age of the facility and the need to conduct maintenance, improve safety and meet storage requirements. The design consisted of re grading the existing pond, providing a pre treatment by mean of a forebay, a new riser and outfall pipe.
Project services included topographic surveys, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, re design of pond's riser structure and landscaping. The project impacted existing wetlands and therefore required 401 and 404 Waterway and Wetland permit from the Maryland Department of the Environment, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The outfall pipe from the pond daylighted on the State
Highway Administration (SHA) property and therefore Right-of-Entry permit had to be obtained from SHA prior to construction.
