traffic engineering | Route 7
Route 7, Loudoun County, Virginia
AMT is currently providing traffic engineering, development of construction documents, traffic phasing, widening, dedicated turn lanes, traffic studies, cost estimating including ROW, construction phase services and post construction phase services for 6 intersections along Route 7. Because Loudoun County is the fastest growing County in Northern Virginia, and traffic has significantly increased in last several years, the purpose of this project is to improve the safety and level of service operations (LOS) for several intersections, specifically, Route 7 and cross streets that form a heavily congested corridor between Route 28 and Dranesville Road in Fairfax County. Specific intersection improvements and associated design services along Route 7 are being provided for Campus Drive/Bartholomew Fair Drive Intersection; Potomac View Road; Community Village at Sterling Entrance; Sterling Boulevard/Cardinal Glen Circle Intersection; Augusta Drive; and Lakeland Drive / Shopping Center Entrance.
Traffic analysis included performing traffic counts in order to determine morning, mid-day, and evening peak hours. Based on traffic volumes, the number of lanes and lane assignments were determined for the subject intersections. Level of service and intersection delays were computed from the traffic volumes during the peak hours. Additionally, weaving sections, ramp junctions, merge/diverge sections, and cross-section and turn lane requirements were evaluated. Critical Lane Volume Technique and analyses procedures per ITE's Highway Capacity Manual (and accompanying software) were used. Additionally, Complex traffic circulation networks using SYNCHRO analyses were modeled and available for use at the public presentation.
Loudoun County is the fastest growing area in Northern Virginia and traffic has significantly increased over the last several years. The purpose of this project is to improve the safety and level of service (LOS) operations at several key intersections along Route 7, as well as along side streets that form a heavily congested corridor between Route 28 and Dranesville Road in Fairfax County. The following specific intersection improvements and associated design services along Route 7 are being provided:
- Campus Drive/Bartholomew Fair Drive
- Potomac View Road
- Community Village at Sterling Entrance
- Sterling Boulevard/Cardinal Glen Circle
- Augusta Drive
- Lakeland Drive / Shopping Center Entrance
This is a VDOT "First Cities" project.
