Pegg Road Extended, Saint Mary's County

The Pegg Road Extended Project is a major component of St. Mary's County annual $4.3 million capital improvement plan. The main purpose of this project is to mitigate traffic congestion, which is particularly heavy due to a rapid growth in both employment and population for over a decade, especially in the Lexington Park and Leonardtown areas. The approved St. Mary's Countywide Transportation Plan indicates that the construction of Pegg Road Extended from MD 237 to MD 5 is anticipated to reduce congestion/delays and improve the overall traffic operations on all major roadways.

Services to be provided include:

  • Provide planning and preliminary engineering of four possible alternatives (No-Build, Alignment Alternatives 1 and 2, and Partial Alignment Alternative) to meet the project, environmental and State requirements. This includes traffic analyses, preliminary environmental analyses, etc.
  • Provide identification and significance of the wetland resources to prepare bridge structure sizing, including the length and elevation of the structure and the waterway opening sizes.
  • Develop and carry out a "tailored" public outreach strategy and public relations campaign to provide information to the public and build/sustain support for the project.
  • Select and approve the preferred alignment.
  • Conduct field survey, environmental, and design services for the preferred alternative alignment study.
  • Conduct and prepare an environmental assessment document for approval.
