MD 586 Resurfacing, Montgomery County, MD
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) provided construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the resurfacing of Veirs Mill Road from the bridge, approximately 8,500 feet east of Twinbrook Parkway, to MD 28. Veirs Mill Road is a closed 4-lane section with a raised median and service roads running parallel to Veirs Mill on both the North and South sides of the road. There are signalized intersections at four locations. The project included reconstruction of portions of the median, curb and sidewalk, and drainage improvements within the limits of SHA right-of-way. AMT was responsible for determining the locations of these repairs based on a site investigation.
Other services provided include:
- Field inspection of existing inlets to determine their structural integrity, and determination if replacement is necessary
- Coordination with WMATA for temporary relocation of bus stops
- Coordination with SHA concerning locations of proposed sidewalks and ramps to meet current ADA standards
- Field investigation of all curbs, sidewalks, and medians to determine the necessary repairs and/or reconstruction
- Preparation of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Plans for curb, median, and sidewalk construction
- Preparation of erosion and sediment control plans
- Coordination of construction services including field visits, partnering meetings, and responses to RFIs
- Surveying
- Permitting for work in a floodplain
- Determined height and offset of all pedestrians push buttons to meet ADA Standards.
