A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. provided design services for upgrading MacArthur Boulevard from I-495 to Oberlin Drive, a distance of approximately 3 miles. The design work included:

Topographic Survey:

Performed aerial survey supplemented with ground control, utility survey, and wetlands identification.

Design:

Provided design for the widening and reconstruction of MacArthur Boulevard to provide shoulders for bikers, removal of excess pavement and replacement with landscaping. Project included relocation and overlay of 8 foot trail. Trail relocation included design of 300 feet of retaining wall. Project included extensive signing and pavement marking for this highly utilized hiker/biker trail. Spot improvements included pedestrian signalization and lighting. Special drainage structures to avoid conflict with 2 large aqueducts located both the roadway and trail. Extensive coordination and public involvement including US Park Service, Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, local bike groups, and neighborhood Associations.
