Garrett County Adventure Sports Complex Access Road
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. is preparing contract plans and specifications for a new approximately 3- mile, 2-lane, open section access road with grades approaching 9%, from Hoyes Run Road to the multi-million dollar Adventure Sports Complex in McHenry, one of the largest development projects in Garrett County History that will be open to the public in Spring of 2006. The Sport Complex, which at full buildout will include retail shops, restaurants and condominiums, will be a premium western Maryland destination for kayakers, canoeists, mountain bikers, rock climbers and their fans who will be drawn by, among other features a 1,000-foot-long whitewater course, over 500 acres of trails, and 600-seat amphitheater. This road will not only provide access to not only the non-profit Adventure Sports Complex, but it will also provide access for the proposed ski area expansion, and the Garrett College Adventuresports(r) program.
Services being provided by AMT for this project include both preliminary and final design including highway design, pavement design, hydrology and hydraulic design, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control design, environmental permit applications, plat preparation, assist with public meetings including displays, field run survey at tie in points and as-builts, construction baseline stakeout, value engineering, and construction management and inspection.
