Brightwood Elementary School - 1300 Nicholson Street, NW, Washington DC.
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. was part of a team that modernized and built a 46,000 square foot addition to Brightwood Elementary School located at 1300 Nicholson Street, NW. AMT provided comprehensive civil engineering, surveying, and construction inspection services in support of the construction of this $15 million project which was completed in 2006.
Services provided included the following:
- Feasibility study.
- Boundary and topographic survey.
- Stormwater management design.
- Review of existing water and sewer conditions with the DC Water and Sewer Administration (WASA) including
 determination of acceptable connection locations and condition of existing lines.
- Water and sewer availability letter obtained based upon WASA's determination of stormwater discharge requirements for their sewers.
- Provided the layout for the site elements outside of the building footprint to facilitate grading, construction of entrances, curbs, sidewalks, and site utility structures.
- Preparation of grading plans to establish vertical control for new site features.
- Development of utility plans including new fire and domestic water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage system.
- Driveway and curb cut entrance details and horizontal locations.
- Sediment and erosion control plans.
- Coordination with the City's Department of Health.
- Preparation of detail sheets for site civil elements including curbs, sidewalks, driveways, utilities, paving, stormwater management details, and sediment and erosion control methods.
- Construction phase services.
- Procurement of permits for stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utilities.
- EISF Documentation / Coordination.
