Census Bureau Complex - Suitland Federal Center Design/Build, Suitland, Maryland
Received GSA Award for outstanding civil engineering and surveying services.
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is providing comprehensive civil engineering, surveying, subsurface utility engineering, and landscape architectural services for this $220,000,000 project which consists of the completion of the design (from design-build bridging documents), the permitting, and the construction of the new headquarters facility of the United States Census Bureau. The site is located at the Suitland Federal Center in Suitland, Maryland. The offices and related special purpose facilities are structures totaling approximately 139,500 gross square meters (1.5 million gross square feet), and approximately 95,000 gross square meters (1 million square feet) of structured parking that will be built in four phases. The offices will house approximately 6,000 employees who are currently located in Federal Office Building No. 3 (FOB-3), FOB-4 and SFB-2 on the Suitland Campus, and four leased sites located off campus. Structured parking will house approx. 3,098 vehicles.
Services provided by AMT include:
Temporary Parking Lots:
- Prepare layout and grading plans.
- Prepare E/S control and temporary drainage plans.
- Prepare natural resource inventory/forest delineation plan (NRI/FSD) and prepare forest conservation plan (FCP) for overall site.
- Process NRI/FSD and FCP through Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).
- Process E/S control plan review through Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and obtain services of MDE expedited reviewer.
- Prepare water main extension and connection under temporary parking lot.
Early Excavation and Utility Relocation Package - North Parking Garage / North Office Building:
- Prepare overall site rough grading plan including the north and south office buildings and the north and south garages.
- Prepare plan and profile for relocation of storm drainage, sanitary sewer and potable water.
- Prepare layout and profile for hot water, chilled water, gas, electric service, and telecommunication based on information provided by the MEP engineers and coordinate telecom relocation with MEP engineers.
- Prepare demolition and excavation plans.
- Prepare erosion and sediment control plan.
- Provide review of erosion and sediment control plan through MDE and obtain services of MDE expedited reviewer.
Final Site Plans - North Garage / North Office Building and South Garage / South Office Building:
- Prepare SWM plans (1 pond) and final erosion and sediment control plans.
- Prepare site layout, grading, drainage and paving plans.
- Prepare water and sewer utility plans.
- Prepare landscape plans.
- Prepare a maintenance of traffic control plan for use during construction.
- Prepare a final traffic control and signage plan.
Green Roofs at Garage:
- Prepare landscaping planting plan for Green Roof.
Demolition of FOB-3 and FOB-4:
- Prepare utility and site demolition plan.
- Prepare grading plan for backfill and final grading for demolished building.
- Prepare erosion and sediment control plan and process erosion and sediment control plan review through Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and obtain services of MDE expedited reviewer.
- Prepare drainage plan.
- Prepare a maintenance of traffic control plan for use during construction.
Final Site Plans for North and South Garages within Areas Previously Occupied by FOB-3 and FOB-4:
- Prepare stormwater management plans for bioretention facility.
- Prepare site layout, grading, drainage and paving plans.
- Prepare final erosion and sediment control plan.
- Prepare landscape plans.
- Prepare a maintenance of traffic control plan for use during construction and prepare a final traffic control and signage plan.
