Architect of the Capitol Red Tunnel, Washington, DC
A. Morton Thomas and Associates,Inc. developed the civil drawings to repair the AOC Red Tunnel which carries many utilities including steam mains, condensate lines, and numerous communication lines. The tunnel is approximately 10 feet square with up to 20 feet of fill on top. The project calls for the excavation of approximately 600 linear feet of tunnel under 2nd Street SE. Excavation will include the temporary support of utilities including 8 inc gas mains, 26inch water main, 24inc sanitary sewer, and a host of fiber optic ductbanks. Excavation will be staged for 300 foot open trench, Two phases of traffic control including detours have been designed 2nd Street will be replaced curb to curb. The project will cost $9 million to construct.
