St. Mary's College North Campus Sports/ Recreation Area, St. Mary's County, Maryland

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) provided comprehensive planning and engineering services associated with the improvements to St. Mary's College North Campus Sports and Recreation Area including improvements to the North Campus Sport/Recreation Area.

Projects included:

  • Varsity Baseball Field: Design of field to NCAA standards with essential features including turf quality, drainage, irrigation, backstop, and outfield fencing that are qualitatively sufficient for varsity intercollegiate play. Also provided engineering for bleacher seating, concessions, storage, and roofed dugout areas.
  • Practice and Recreation Sports Fields: Design of fields with a natural soils system with top soil enhancement to maintain a durable turf; designed drainage using natural infiltration; and designed underground irrigation to all fields.
  • Tennis Courts: Provided engineering for lighting and utility requirements, as well as surface and fencing for a complex of 9 tennis courts for NCAA competitions and recreational use.
  • Parking: Designed a parking area in a location between the proposed baseball field and practice fields to accommodate 280 vehicles. Design included lighting, security phones, and space to accommodate four dumpsters.
  • Roads, Walkways, and Other Site Improvements: Prepared plans for the relocation of the roadway between the new tennis court location and the Physical Plant Building.
  • Landscape Plans: Provided landscape plans for tennis courts and parking areas.
  • Sector Stormwater Management: Designed stormwater management facilities with capacity for all stormwater generated by the North Campus Athletic and Recreation Outdoor Facilities as well as the existing and future impervious surface increases. SWM permits were obtained from MDE and the Critical Area Commission and included bioretention and infiltration facilities.
